ABOUT
ORESTE
PRADA
Transformation has been the driving force in my studies and teaching. Yoga, photography, and communication are all crafts that depend on and fuel transformation in individuals, whether it be physical, emotional, or psychological.

Yoga practitioners watch their bodies and temperaments change. Photographers evolve how they see the world. Writers and public speakers refine their ability to engage and connect. These are all very real and potentially life-changing transformations that affect not just their own disciplines but every other aspect of life.
I've been studying Yoga, photography, and photographic printing for 20 years and teaching over a decade now. I have worked as a journalist and editor, and taught individuals and groups the art of professional communication. Crossroads in Focus is my way to share what I have learned.

YOGA & YOGA THERAPY*
Yoga Therapist (IAYT), Yoga Instructor (Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500, YACEP)
It is impossible to overstate the role Yoga has played in my life. I began practice in 2000, as a way to manage back pain, and quickly discovered Yoga's subtle, powerful, healing power. By bringing care and attention to my body through practice I was able to manage back pain without medication.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to daily study of Yoga, mainly focused within the Ashtanga-Vinyasa and Viniyoga/Krishnamacharya Yoga traditions. Studying in two traditions has been incredibly helpful in helping my students with very different life circumstances, needs, and goals be successful in practice.

I am a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500-level teacher, the highest yoga teacher registration level offered by the largest Yoga teacher registry in the U.S. I am also a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) and my workshops, classes and private sessions can be used by Yoga Alliance registered Yoga teachers to accrue continuing education credits. I am also a Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), the largest certifying body ofYyoga therapists in the U.S.
I have trained at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), the school/clinic established by Krishnamacharya's son, T.K.V. Desikachar, in honor of his father, and at the Krishanamacharya Heaing & Yoga Foundation (KHYF) in Chennai, India, the school/clinic established by Desikachar and his son Kausthub to disseminate Krishnamacharya's teachings worldwide.

*I am an IAYT-certified Yoga Therapist. The Yoga Therapy components of my instruction are based on Krishnamacharya Yoga tradition, my studies with Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) and Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation (KHYF) and not derived from my status as an RYT with Yoga Alliance Registry.

PHOTOGRAPHY & PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTING
Photography/Photographic Printing Instructor (UCSD Extension)
I fell in love with photography as soon as I worked with my first camera. I had a background in art and intended to use my camera to capture photos that would be future paintings. Instead I quickly saw the potential in photography to create images that were beautiful and meaningful art in their own right. So I began to learn more about how to control my camera and, thus, the qualities of the photos I took.
I studied photography at the University of California San Diego Extension and was one of the first graduates of their photography program. I have been teaching photography and photographic printing here since 2007.
I have a professional background in designing and testing professional and consumer photo printers and have done workshops with John Paul Caponigro and RIT College of Imaging Arts & Sciences Professor Nitin Sampat. Through my career I have collaborated with National Geographic and Magnum Photographers to help create and promote digital printers that meet professional photographer needs.

Since 2005 I have focused especially on the critical transitions that occur in careers, whether it is a simple job change or a shift in industry, location, or role. I have done various trainings in corporate settings, helping individuals create résumés that both reflect and emphasize their strengths, to make them stand out over other candidates. I have also worked closely with people developing their professional online presence to aid networking and job searching.
